Description

This course will explore the complexity and depth of gender, including gender identity, gender expression, and sex assigned at birth; along with sexuality and the LGBTQIA+ acronym. Participants will practice using personal gender pronouns correctly (and the importance of doing so), and what words to avoid.

Faculty

Amanda Erickson (she/her) – Director of Education & Outreach, Kaleidoscope Youth Center

Amanda Erickson has worked with Kaleidoscope Youth Center since 2017, focusing on advocating for LGBTQIA+ youth across Ohio through education for youth-serving professionals, including teachers, social workers, and more. Amanda has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University and spent two years post-college as a Peace Corps Volunteer educating teachers in Vanuatu, in the South Pacific. Before joining KYC, she taught sex education and life skills in the juvenile justice system and managed program partnerships for a regional youth-serving organization. Amanda currently serves as a National Volunteer Partner with Girl Scouts of the USA.

Kaleidoscope Youth Center (KYC) is Ohio’s largest and longest-serving organization in Ohio solely dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ youth ages 12-24. Services include a Drop-in Center, community education and training, advocacy and civic engagement, health and wellness, and housing opportunities.
