Fall 2024: CASA volunteers, Ohio programs make headlines

Whether it was receiving special awards or hosting unique community events, CASA programs and volunteers across Ohio were the subject of various news stories throughout the Fall 2024 season.

April Booth, Meigs County’s first ever CASA volunteer, was named Ohio CASA’s 2024 Child Welfare Advocate of the Year at the 2024 Celebrate Kids! Conference, highlighted in articles in the River Cities Tribune & Register, WVNews, the Meigs Independent Press and in an interview with WTAP TV.

“My situation is a testament that every child is one caring adult away from a success story,” she said.

Booth was honored for her dedicated work with youth in foster care with Meigs County Children Services and her collaboration with the Meigs-Gallia CASA/GAL Program.

CASA volunteers like in Hocking County and Madison County were featured in articles for attending Ohio CASA’s Celebrate Kids! Conference.

Summit County CASA guardian ad litem Alice Duey was featured in an article about her life and work.

Programs like Shelby County CASA worked to raise awareness about different topics, like National Adoption Awareness Month in November.

Many local CASA programs hosted different community events and fundraisers that were featured in the news.

CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties hosted a lunch time fundraiser to further connect with the community, and Northwest Ohio CASA took part in various community events.

CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties put on a first ever trivia night, featured in a story by WLIO.

“We had a lot of very generous donations. We’re really excited that we got to partner with all of our partners in the community, and we all kind of come together to support the kids in our community,” CASA Director Zach Reneau told WLIO.
