Program directors, Ohio CASA come together for training, group discussion session

Opportunity for program directors, CASA staff from across Ohio to learn, share new ideas

CASA program directors from across Ohio gathered in Columbus in December for a two-day training, focusing on assisting volunteers, and by extension, the children they serve.

The Technical Assistance Meeting is an annual offering from the Ohio CASA/GAL Association, designed to strengthen relationships and share new ideas.

“We are encouraged by the valuable time we got to spend with CASA leaders from across Ohio,” said Kathleen Glumac, Esq., Director of Program Services for Ohio CASA. “There were opportunities to ask questions, get updates from program directors and learn from a series of knowledgeable speakers.”

At the training, attendees heard from Ohio CASA Executive Director Doug Stephens on a variety of topics, Stephanie Beale of Cleveland-based non-profit Kinnect, Ohio CASA Director of Communications Haley Nelson, and members of Cincinnati-based non-profit the Varner Foundation.

Kara Wente, the Director of Ohio’s new Department of Children and Youth, presented to the Ohio CASA Network. This provided an opportunity to learn about the goals of this department and how the team plans to promote services for millions of Ohio children and their families.

CASA Program Directors also shared information about new efforts their teams have implemented on a local level.

“This gathering provides a tremendous opportunity for the Ohio CASA Network to improve and grow stronger,” said Ohio CASA Executive Director Doug Stephens. “We welcome all of the discussion and new ideas shared.”

The Ohio CASA staff hosts these meetings throughout the year.
