
Winter 2024/25: CASA programs, volunteers across Ohio make news
In the winter season of 2024 and 2025, the Ohio CASA Network grew as local CASA programs made headlines for welcoming new volunteers and expanding services into new counties.
The expansion of the CASA of Southern Ohio program was featured in multiple articles.
The team there has served children in Adams and Scioto Counties, and has now expanded into Lawrence County.
“The mission of CASA is to ensure every child has a safe and permanent home,” said CASA of Southern Ohio Director Cortney Brumley in The People’s Defender article. “Expanding into Lawrence County means we can reach even more children in need and provide them with the advocacy they deserve.”
Northwest Ohio CASA was involved in various community efforts, as covered by WTOL-TV.
The Paulding Area Chamber of Commerce also highlighted the work of the program and CASA volunteers in Northwest Ohio.
ProKids CASA of Hamilton County shared details about the work of volunteers, calling them the “heart and engine of advocacy.”
Multiple community members were sworn in as CASA volunteers in Logan County. They were joined by loved ones, court officials and Ohio CASA staff.
Progress is being made to launch a CASA program in Medina County, as documented by a Medina-Gazette story.
The Athens CASA program team highlighted one of their popular annual events: The Reindeer Run.
“How I describe the CASA (volunteer) is the person that is giving that child a constant, an ear and a voice, a constant variable,” CASA volunteer David Young said in The Post article. “You’re in it for the long haul. (I’ve spent) five years with one of my cases and I am easily the only constant that kid has had the entire time he’s been in the system.”
The need for more CASA volunteers in Cuyahoga County was documented by Signal Cleveland.
Information was shared about a community event designed to raise awareness about the CASA program in Allen and Putnam Counties.
