Christin Brown-Worthington honored for her work advocating for children in need at Ohio CASA’s 29th Annual Celebrate Kids! Conference in Columbus

Christin Brown-Worthington was named Ohio’s 2024 Rising Star Volunteer of the Year by the Ohio CASA/GAL Association for her dedication to helping Clark County children.

Over 700 CASA volunteers and child welfare advocates gathered for training and discussion at Ohio CASA’s 29th Annual Celebrate Kids! Conference held in late September, where Brown-Worthington was honored.

“This honor means the world to me,” she said. “I feel grateful and blessed to receive this honor, and I could not have done it without my family and all the great people at Clark County CASA. I will continue to strive to serve children, so their voices are heard.”

Brown-Worthington became a CASA volunteer in October of 2022.

Clark County CASA/GAL Program Director Abby Easton says she excelled in training and immediately took a case. After a few months, Brown-Worthington started shadowing staff before taking on a complicated case, where she uncovered unheard concerns from the children.

“She always listened to the children and made sure their voices were heard in court. Through her advocacy, Christin has given them what every child deserves: hope,” said Easton. “Christin has been such an asset to our program and the children of Clark County.”

Brown-Worthington was also named the 2024 recipient of the “Book of Golden Deeds” Award by the Exchange Club of Springfield. A long-time and prestigious award, the “Book of Golden Deeds” honor recognizes a dedicated volunteer who makes their community a better place.

At any given time, there are 15,000 Ohio children in foster care, making efforts like Brown-Worthington’s essential.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are community members who are appointed by a judge to advocate for a child’s best interest in the court system. CASA volunteers complete comprehensive training to speak up for children experiencing abuse and neglect.

There are CASA programs in 60 Ohio counties, with CASA volunteers serving around 10,000 children annually.

Clark County has operated a CASA program since 1989. If you would like to become a CASA volunteer or support the program, visit the Clark County CASA website.
