Summer 2024: CASA volunteers, programs in the news
From delivering the game ball at a Cincinnati Reds game to training the next class of dedicated CASA volunteers, local CASA programs and volunteers made headlines across Ohio in the summer season of 2024.
Warren County CASA volunteers Laurie Mitroff and Jen Harper were highlighted for delivering the official Cincinnati Reds game ball in June. The honor was part of the “Ohio CASA at the Ballpark” volunteer appreciation and awareness campaign.
Greene County CASA volunteer Jean Lockwood was recognized with a resolution from Greene County Commissioners for her 20+ years of volunteer service.
“This has been an experience that has been marvelous for me to see all these children and know I made a difference in at least a few lives,” said Lockwood. “This program is irreplaceable.”
It was a busy time for the CASA of Seneca, Sandusky, and Wyandot Counties program. CASA staff shared information about upcoming volunteer training and presented to Tiffin City Council about the importance of CASA volunteers.
The team also participated in multiple radio interviews, sharing information about upcoming CASA-related events and about the importance of the CASA program.
News was also shared about the CASA of Seneca, Sandusky, and Wyandot Counties program appointing a new assistant director.
“I am very humbled and a bit speechless,” Michelle Hess told the Advertiser-Tribune. “CASA has been so good to me, this program has shaped me into the professional I always hoped to be. Someone that stands up for what is right, will take the lead into the unknown, and empathize with all I come across.”
CASA of Noble County spent time collecting school supplies and hygiene products for local children in need.
Clinton County CASA’s involvement at the CASA Day at the Cincinnati Reds game was highlighted in the News Journal.
Ohio CASA Board Member and Ohio’s Second Lady Tina Husted threw out the first pitch at the CASA Day at the Cleveland Guardians game in June as well.
Northwest Ohio CASA staff shared information about the work of CASA volunteers with the Kiwanis Club of Paulding County.
CASA of Portage County was involved in multiple events in the summer of 2024, including the CASA of Portage County Associate Board and Chain Breakers Children Advocates First Annual Bike Run & Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser and the Portage County Summit on Kids.
