This 1.5 hour session is in two parts; each must be fully completed to receive 1.5 hours Rule 48 continuing education certification through the Ohio CASA/GAL Association. Description
Participants will gain a better understanding of Ohio’s special education laws and processes, as well as specific ways that CASA volunteers can advocate within the educational system on behalf of the children they represent. This session also identifies various valuable resources to further aid the CASA volunteer.
Faculty experience
Kristin Hildebrant is a Senior Attorney at Disability Rights Ohio. An experienced senior manager and attorney, she has been practicing education law for over 31 years with a focus on disabilities. She has extensive knowledge of Ohio and federal education policy and law, concentrating in special education, and is a subject matter expert in state administrative hearings and federal litigation under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Kristin has been a trial attorney in class action litigation leading to successful statewide changes in access to healthcare for Medicaid-eligible children, and community integration for adults with disabilities.
